Artist in Residence

I heard back from the School of design at ECA and with positive news. I can announce that I will be one of the new glass artists in residence. I have to say this came quite unexpected which makes the news so much better. I havn't recieved the official paperwork yet but at the college they told me it has been send out. I am going on a holliday to the Netherlands next week so it will be nice knowing that I got something good to come back for, and start focussing more on what made me come to Edinburgh in the first place.

The Third Man

I had the interview for the glass artist in residency. It went pretty quick as they where behind (something you can expect when you are at the end of the day). Because of this I felt it was quite difficult to fully explain my intentions and I fear they might go with someone else. However I am still happy that I went and try to keep my hopes up! I really think I would fit in and would be a fresh wind in the department (it's good to have someone with a different view on things).

One of the other things that happened is that I've been asked to show some of my work at a lunchcafe just of of Princess Street (one of the main shopping streets in Edinburgh). The place is called The Third Man, and will be opening in a couple of weeks. It was very nice being asked for this and the owner seems very helpfull and willing. I hope it will be a succes and that he will keep continuing giving local artists a chance (after my show is over ofcourse). I will let you know more about this project as it goes.

New Blog

As I have lots of creative hobby's besides my artwork, I decided to make another blog.
I feel it doesn't fit in with what I am doing here but it still is nice enough to show. I know it might be a bit annoying to have yet another website to look at but then again you can bookmark as many as you want.
The blog can be found at: http://www.scumb4g.blogspot.co.uk/ and will mainly contain my airbrush work and painted miniatures (more of those as I don't really have alot of space for airbrushing at the moment).

As for other update's I got an e-mail that said the interview I had scheduled for monday will now be held on tuesday, so that gives me another day to prepare for it (not that I really need it but it doesn't make a difference).. So keep your fingers cross on tuesday instead of monday.

Graduated

It has become very difficult for me to think of things to share with you now I have finished my course. First of all I just have been enjoying the peace and quiet for a bit, but now there have been quite a few changes in my life that might be worth sharing. I finaly recieved my Degree from the University (I didn't attend the ceremony so no nice picture of me in a funny suit sorry about that), the good news is that I graduated with an Distinction (something I honestly didn't expect to recieve with the program focussing so much on the theorectical part of the course).
I am also applying for severall different things, most importantly now the Glass department's artist in Residency's position. (I don't like talking about this to be honest because I think there is only a very very small chance that I might actually be able to get this posistion since my glass experience isn't the best). I am however invited for an interview so if you could all keep your fingers crossed next monday (the 9th) afternoon that would be great.

I am also starting a new kind of facebook page (it's an artist page since I am such a proffesional now ;) ). If you have facebook feel free to like my page at: https://www.facebook.com/SanderSchoonbeek

I guess that's it with the news for now I will let you know what is going on as soon as I know it.

Gelderlander

The degree show has already been taken down today when a nice e-mail came in from my mother. I had an interview last week with a dutch newspaper about my billboard in the Netherlands and the connection with it to my degree show in Edinburgh. They where very interested and wrote a very nice piece about me and my work. Unfortunately for most of you it's in dutch, but luckily it has some nice images in it.

Here's a picture of the article thanks to Birgit Suilen.

Billboard Nijmegen

As the show opened in Edinburgh, in the Netherlands my billboard has been put up aswell.
It is strange not being able to go there myself as I have to stay here during the duration of the degree show.
So thanks to my mother I have been able to see some pictures of it (which came even in time for the opening of my show here in Edinburgh).

You can find the information about my billboad on my website (unfortunately only in dutch at this moment).

and for those who won't be able to read it here's the first picture of my Billboard:

Viva

I just had my Viva and apperantly it went pretty well (at least thats what the tutors told me). I was quite nervous and offcourse afterwards remembered alot of stuff I forgot to mention (like helping to screenprint the fundraising bags, and planning to apply for a technicians position after I'm graduated). Well If they read all of my blog they will be able to find most of these thing I just can't blame them for not reading all of the posts I have made during these last 2 years as it has become quite a bookwork.

At this moment I am rounding up some stuff to make my work look at its best for the degree show aswell as casting some final pieces while I still have acces to the casting facilities.
